How Much Does Ceramic Coating Cost in Virginia?

Ceramic coating cost in Virginia varies by shop, vehicle size, and how much paint correction you need before the product goes on. At Deluxe Paint Protection in Chantilly, packages start at $600, $800, and $1000. Those are real starting points, and what each one includes is published below.

Why coating prices vary so much

Almost all of the price difference between two coating quotes is labor, not the bottle. The coating itself is a small part of the cost. What you are paying for is the hours it takes to get the paint ready, and those hours change enormously depending on how the car looks when it arrives.

A shop quoting $300 and a shop quoting $1000 are usually selling two different jobs. One is a wash and a wipe-on product. The other is decontamination plus machine polishing plus a coating that will not sit on top of visible defects. Both can be honest offers, but they do not produce the same car.

Our package starting prices

Level One ($600): 2-year ceramic with a gloss enhancement polish that removes about 30% of swirls and clearcoat scratches, plus the shared prep of hand wash and dry, rims, wheel wells and tires deep cleaned, plastic trim conditioning, and iron and clay decontamination.

Level Two ($800): 5-year ceramic with one-step correction aimed at roughly half of visible swirls, plus the same prep foundation.

Level Three ($1000): 9-year ceramic with two-step correction aimed at 70% to 90% of visible clearcoat defects, again on the same prep.

The prep list is identical across the three tiers on purpose. What changes as you move up is the coating term and how much correction work happens before the coating goes on.

What moves the price on your specific car

Vehicle size is the obvious one. A Model Y and a full-size truck are not the same hours in the bay, and a three-row SUV has close to double the panel area of a compact sedan.

Paint condition is the bigger variable. Two identical cars from the same model year can need very different amounts of work depending on whether they lived in a garage or went through a brush wash every Saturday. Soft clearcoats, common on several Japanese and Tesla finishes, mark easily and need a more careful approach, which takes time.

Color matters more than people expect. Black and dark blue show every swirl and hologram, so correcting them to a standard you will actually be happy with takes longer than the same work on silver. Add-ons like wheel or glass coating also move the number, and those are worth deciding on before the car is in the bay rather than after.

What a cheap online number usually skips

Some ads quote coating alone without wash, clay, or correction. That number looks low until you ask what happens to swirls under the product. Coating locks in whatever is underneath. If the paint is hazy, the coated car stays hazy, and it stays that way for the length of the coating rather than until your next polish.

Watch for a few other gaps. A quote with no stated coating term tells you nothing about durability. A quote that does not mention decontamination usually means the product is going on over embedded iron and bonded grime. A quote with a warranty that requires annual paid inspections at the same shop is a subscription, so read it before you sign.

Ask any shop for the correction level, the coating term, and whether wheels and decontamination are included. Compare the scope before you compare the headline price.

Ceramic vs PPF pricing

Ceramic packages and PPF packages solve different problems. Partial front PPF starts at $1300. Full front starts at $1900. Track addon starts at $500. Full car starts at $5500. Film costs more because it is a physical product cut, fitted, and wrapped panel by panel, and because a bad install shows.

Many Virginia owners spend on both: film on the nose, ceramic everywhere else. If your budget only covers one this year, pick based on which problem is actually bothering you, then add the other later. Coating over existing film is straightforward, and so is filming a car that is already coated once we prep the surface for it.

What is not included

Correction is not paint repair. Deep scratches that catch a fingernail, chips down to primer, and failing clearcoat are body shop work, and no coating package fixes them. We flag that during inspection instead of after, so nobody is surprised at pickup.

Standalone correction without a coating is available and quoted after we see the car. Some owners take that route first, live with the finish for a season, and coat later.
